The KNOWLEDGE BASED SOCIETY will lead to the MONEYLESS SOCIETY: an almost perfect world

Werner Leo, EzineArticles Basic PLUS Author
With all those events going on in the world, one wonders how we ever got to this point in the first place and how can we get out of it. Did you ever realize how many laws our politicians crank out every year?! Laws, which we than have to live by. They come up with laws and regulations for the environment, laws that tell who and how can make pharmaceuticals, laws about traffic, about food, laws about technology and science and so on and so forth. An endless list! After thinking about this for a while, I started to notice that there is something fundamentally wrong with this picture. Here is an example to show you what I mean: If you are sick, would you go to a politician for help? Of course not. You would go to a doctor. A man or woman, which has gone to school and is a professional in treading illnesses. So, why than do we live in a world where politicians crank out laws about issues that they themselves have no, or very little knowledge about. Sure, they have advisory boards, but in the end they twist the advice they are getting into something that THEY think would work best. Mostly for their own benefits and to stay in office. That has been this way for as long politics has existed.

However, there is hope to change this. Over the last decade or two, a new phrase has emerged in academic circles: The Knowledge based society! Now, what is this? Economic experts, forecasters and academics have seen a trend that started to emerge over time. Here is the concept in a nutshell:

As society from ancient times forward, changes and evolves, so do its needs and wants, and therefore the economy changes as well. Back in the 1800’s, society was based on a land and agricultural economy. The one who had the most land and/or produced the most agricultural products, was the richest and most powerful nation or individual at this time. Than in the 1900 came the industrial revolution, where the industrial output was the deciding factor. Now, in the early stages of the 21st century changes are happening again. This time it is Knowledge, that will from now on forward be the bases of society and the economy. This means that the acquisition of wealth and power is no longer linked to land possession, agricultural production, or industrial output. More and more manual labor is now being performed by machines and robots. The old agriculture and manufacturing jobs are falling to the wayside. Power and wealth is now linked to the possession and production of Data, information, scientific discovery and Knowledge. The old saying: ”Knowledge is Power”, has never been more valid than today. They nations, companies or individuals who can provide the most knowledge, will be the most influential in society.

So, what has all of this to do with the politicians we were talking about in the beginning? Well, wouldn’t it make more sense to have academics or scientists guide and lead the world, since they are experts in their field of endeavor. Wouldn’t you think that experts can come up with more common sense and more laws and regulations that actually are good for all mankind? I think it would be a good way to put experts in charge, rather than politicians. Besides, there would be very little chance that they are concerned about staying in power and winning the next elections.

Once the Knowledge based Society is starting to be established in reality, we can than start to take a look at the next step in human society. In not too long a time, we will transition into the next and most important stage of our future society: It will be the Moneyless Society. This final step will finally lead to a planetary society, where greed and inequality no longer exists. Keep in mind, that this article was just an introduction and overview. in a series of continuous articles, we will explore in detail all the elements that make this societal transformation a reality.

Now, all this might look like outlandish thinking, or dreaming to you, but keep in mind that the economy will move towards being based on Knowledge. Specialists in their field of expertise and academics might simply be put into position of leadership, simply by necessity or economical and societal evolution.

So let’s use all our writing works, fiction, non fiction or research, to paint a picture of how things could be and maybe should be. Let’s inspire our readers with our stories and articles, to better themselves and help to build a better planet to live on, for all of mankind. I couldn’t think of a better reason to use our passion.

  1. This is a quaint premise but in a broken capitalist society like ours where big business and their broken business models are wielding inordinate amounts of power over government and the legal system, there will never be a knowledge based society that influences policy, ever! Nice pie in the sky though.

  2. Thanks for the comment Ric. I am thinking along the same lines as you. However, i will just point to the last paragraph in the article, to show that there is hope after all.

For the time being, you are of course right. I am just a bit more optimistic and belief that we will eventually get there after all, but i agree, that we can not foretell how the power distribution will look like. However as said in the last paragraph, we might get there just by necessity.
